In a heartfelt celebration of dedication, ambition, and community support, the Lincoln-Way Area Business Women’s Organization (LWABWO) recently honored nearly three dozen young women with scholarships. Each recipient received a $1,480 scholarship at a recognition dinner hosted at Gatto’s in New Lenox this June—a milestone event that marked the culmination of a year of fundraising and community engagement.
Celebrating Young Women with Purpose
The annual scholarship dinner is more than just a formal event—it’s a moment of recognition for hardworking, goal-driven young women in the Lincoln-Way area. Whether they are graduating high school seniors or women pursuing continuing education, these recipients represent the future of leadership and service within the community.
By offering scholarships, the LWABWO doesn’t just provide financial support; it offers belief in these young women’s dreams, a foundation of encouragement, and a network of women rooting for their success.
A Legacy of Support Since the 1970s
Founded in the 1970s, the Lincoln-Way Area Business Women’s Organization has always been driven by a singular mission: to raise scholarship funds for local young women. While the group is involved in various charitable efforts throughout the year, the scholarship program remains its core focus.
Decades later, that passion has only grown stronger. The organization continues to adapt and expand its efforts to meet the rising needs of students facing the financial challenges of pursuing education.
Record-Breaking Fundraising at the 2024 Christmas Auction
One of the most impactful fundraising efforts of the year comes during the festive season—the annual Christmas Auction. In December 2024, this event raised an impressive $38,830.93, setting a new record for the organization.
The auction has become a staple in the community, drawing local businesses, residents, and supporters together for a night of generosity and purpose. The funds raised go directly into the scholarship fund, expanding opportunities for the following year’s applicants.
Membership Open to All Women in the Community
Beyond scholarships, the LWABWO serves as a hub of female leadership, networking, and support. Any woman in the community is welcome to join the organization. With annual dues of just $50, membership opens doors to monthly meetings, networking dinners, and the opportunity to be part of something bigger than oneself.
Meetings are held every second Tuesday of the month at Gatto’s in New Lenox, and they will resume this September after the summer break. It’s an open invitation to any woman passionate about uplifting others, fostering education, and building meaningful community connections.
Investing in Women is Investing in the Community
The Lincoln-Way Area Business Women’s Organization reminds us all of an important truth: when we support women—especially young women striving for education and excellence—we are investing in the broader well-being and success of our entire community.
Whether it’s through a scholarship, a mentorship, or a supportive network, empowering women leads to a ripple effect of positive change. LWABWO’s decades-long legacy is a powerful example of what that change can look like.
Their work continues—and their impact keeps growing.
