Telangana Jagruthi’s “Leader” Programme: A New Chapter in Women and Youth Empowerment

In a bold and visionary move, Telangana Jagruthi has launched a unique political training initiative titled “Leader”, aiming to shape a new generation of socially responsible and politically aware citizens. Spearheaded by K Kavitha, the President of Telangana Jagruthi and BRS MLC, this programme signals a shift towards inclusive, grassroots-oriented political engagement—especially for those who come from non-political backgrounds.

A Platform for the People, Beyond Politics

Unlike conventional political ventures, “Leader” is designed to be a training ground for aspiring change-makers—women, youth, and community leaders who wish to contribute meaningfully to public life but lack the political lineage or exposure.

K Kavitha emphasized that the programme is not about party politics but about building political literacy. Telangana Jagruthi, traditionally known for its role in cultural revival and statehood movements, is now evolving into a space that nurtures democratic participation at its roots.

What Does the Training Cover?

The structure of the “Leader” programme is carefully curated to provide practical knowledge and tools required for effective governance. The three-day training sessions will offer comprehensive lessons in:

Grassroots Governance: Understanding the panchayat system, municipal administration, and rural development mechanisms. Problem Solving and Decision Making: Addressing community issues with empathy, strategy, and local insight. Securing Development Funds: Navigating bureaucratic processes to access government schemes and financial resources. Constitutional Roles and Responsibilities: Clarifying the duties and limitations of elected representatives like Sarpanches, MLAs, and MPs.

This curriculum is meant to demystify governance for everyday citizens and empower them to lead change in their own communities.

Training the Future, District by District

The first leg of the training will begin in Hyderabad this July, setting the tone for what promises to be a state-wide awakening. From August onward, the “Leader” camps will expand into monthly district-level sessions, ensuring that no part of Telangana is left out of this transformative mission.

Each session will run for three days, packed with interactive modules, fieldwork simulations, and mentor guidance from experienced social leaders, administrators, and public policy experts.

Why This Matters Now

At a time when political awareness is often limited to voting during elections, there’s a critical need for consistent civic education. This is especially true for women and youth, who are frequently underrepresented in decision-making processes despite being deeply impacted by them.

“Leader” comes as an answer to the disconnect between citizens and the system, aiming to fill that gap with knowledge, skill, and confidence.

Not Just Participation—Preparation

K Kavitha’s vision goes beyond symbolic representation. She believes in preparing citizens to participate meaningfully in governance—not just as voters or protesters, but as educated contributors who understand the mechanics of the system.

By offering a political roadmap to those traditionally left out of the conversation, “Leader” represents a shift in how democracy functions at the grassroots. It is preparation for participation, a formula India needs now more than ever.

Women and Youth: The Focus, The Future

The decision to focus on women and youth is both strategic and progressive. These groups have historically faced barriers—social, economic, and political—that have prevented them from stepping into leadership roles.

Through the “Leader” programme, Telangana Jagruthi hopes to bridge this historical gap, ensuring that tomorrow’s leaders are as diverse and dynamic as the communities they represent.

In an era where political narratives often feel distant and divisive, “Leader” brings back the idea of politics as public service—as a skill to be learned, practiced, and refined. It is a hopeful, grounded initiative with the potential to inspire thousands to step forward, speak up, and lead from where they stand.

And for Telangana, this could be the start of something truly transformational.
