The Timepiece Renaissance: How Women Are Reclaiming the Watch World

Once a symbol of masculine prestige, wristwatches are now undergoing a powerful transformation—one that places women at the center of the narrative. From Serena Williams dazzling at the Super Bowl to Louis Vuitton’s runway making timepieces part of haute couture, watches are no longer just tools to tell time. They’re statements of style, stories of identity, and markers of a new era led by women.

This female-centric watch revival isn’t just a fashion trend—it’s a cultural shift, driven by women collectors, influencers, and style icons who are redefining what it means to wear a watch in 2025.

A Cultural Reset: From Queen Caroline to Serena Williams

While it may seem like a new trend, the connection between women and wristwatches dates back over 200 years. The first wristwatch in history was created in 1812 for Queen Caroline Murat of Naples, the sister of Napoleon Bonaparte. It was delicate, refined, and unlike anything worn by men at the time. Yet somehow, over the years, the wristwatch world became dominated by men—sold as power symbols for CEOs, athletes, and financiers.

Fast-forward to 2025, and that narrative is being rewritten. When Serena Williams appeared at the Super Bowl halftime show wearing the ultra-rare Audemars Piguet Code 11.59 Tourbillon, it wasn’t just an accessory—it was a declaration. A woman known for her strength and precision chose to flaunt one of the most complex timepieces ever made, live on the world’s biggest stage.

Watches are no longer locked in boardrooms or on basketball courts—they’re showing up in music videos, fashion runways, and prime-time TV, attached to stories and style shaped by women.

Brynn Wallner & the Rise of “Dimepiece” Culture

What really opened the door for women in watches wasn’t just high fashion—it was the rise of female watch influencers like Brynn Wallner, the founder of Dimepiece. Starting as an Instagram page where she posted her own research, Dimepiece has since become a cultural hub for women interested in horology without the intimidating jargon.

Her approach is refreshingly accessible. Instead of flexing heritage or technical specs, she talks about watches through the lens of pop culture, styling, and personal connection. Whether it’s Rihanna in a Richard Mille or Zendaya in vintage Cartier, Wallner uses celebrity style moments to draw women into the world of watches.

And she’s not alone. Instagram accounts like @pulseonthewrist and others have formed a digital sisterhood of sorts—highlighting petite watch faces, layered jewelry, nail art, and luxury all in one post. It’s a watch movement that’s less about gatekeeping and more about community and confidence.

Fashion Takes Over: Louis Vuitton, White Lotus, and the Cocktail Watch Comeback

The momentum doesn’t stop at social media. Fashion houses are embracing watches like never before—Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2025 runway show featured women’s timepieces styled not as practical items, but as central design elements. Watches appeared on cuffs, integrated into gloves, or peeking out from luxurious fur sleeves, elevating them to couture status.

Television is in on the action too. In The White Lotus Season 3, women characters were dressed in opulent resort wear, with watches acting as subtle but sharp accessories that reflected status, mystery, and personality. The message? Watches tell more than time—they tell stories.

This aligns with the comeback of the “cocktail watch”—delicate, sparkling, and designed for the evening. Once viewed as outdated or too dainty, these pieces are now in high demand. Cartier’s Baignoire, Chanel’s Première, and even smaller Rolex Datejust models are topping wishlists. These watches are stackable, stylish, and often paired with bangles and rings—turning them into pieces of wearable art.

Women Are Setting the Time

The timepiece revolution we’re witnessing isn’t a moment—it’s a movement. Watches are becoming a canvas for personal expression, heritage, and independence. Women aren’t just joining the watch world; they’re leading it—with confidence, taste, and style that blends legacy and rebellion.

From collectors to stylists, influencers to designers, women are carving out space in a world once considered off-limits. And just like the perfect timepiece, their impact is precise, lasting, and right on time.
